Anarchists versus Leeds Fans
Its that strange point in the year were headless people walk round Edinburgh’s Royal Mile (bloody fringe twats) , where everyone in the city center speaks with an american accent (bloody tourists) , and were every silly protest march happens (bloody protesters)….yes this weekend saw the Anarchist trying to “Reclaim the streets” with a protest through the center of edinburgh.
What struck me was how conformist (in a non conformist way) and how non anarchic these anarchists were. All the blokes were you bog standard scruffy student type - obviously looking like they live in a squat ‘cos dady’s a millionaire and you want to be a bit ruff through university years YAH SWEETIE and all the girls were bra-less Charlie Dimmock wannabees. Their Anarchic protest march involved walking quite peacefully (a few drums and chants - were pretty much it) down the road with a whole three police officers watching over them (about 100ish) - no disruption to traffic (that I saw), no tree planting (ala the london Reclaim the streets march) and more than a few bemused tourists.
Contrast this with the Leeds fans, in town to see Leeds beat Hibs 3-1 in a friendly. Now I saw about 100 of them when they were walking from Waverly train station towards the top of Leith Walk - in a few hundred metres there were about 30 police officers including a number of mounted units and a couple of van loads hidden in back streets “just in case” - the police were stopping traffic to let the fans go through in one big block towards Easter Road and the chants of Leeds footy songs rung out across the noisy satarday Princess street traffic and shoppers…
A brilliant quote from anarchism.net
The hostility between different branches of anarchism is the greatest obstacle to accomplishing the anarchist society. Anarchists disagree on how to deal with the state, how to abolish it, and what the anarchist society would be like.
I tell you what they need…a leeds season ticket
